DMR GAS CAP
$119.95
Vented or Non-Vented Cap

PRODUCT INFO
Death Metal Racing gas cap. These fit all Harley models with standard screw in style gas caps. CNC machined from 6061 T-6 billet aluminum. O-ring included to ensure a tight seal. Available with or without a hidden vent which is a threaded screw in fitting with a mesh screen to help prevent fuel from splashing out of the vent or a solid screw in non vented plug. If your tank itself is vented, you will need to select NON-VENTED cap and it will come with a brass plug installed. Right side fill tanks on late model fuel injected bikes have NON-Vented gas caps. If you purchase a vented cap for a non-vented bike, gas will spew out of the hidden vent when the tank is full and the pump is activated when the bike is started. Center fill 08-up touring models use a vented cap. Carbureted bikes can have vented or non vented, it varies from bike to bike. Just depends if the tank is vented or not. Comes with a carbon fiber insert with double sided tape to install in the center of the cap if you so choose. 5 logos to choose from, or run it without the insert. WE DO NOT DO CUSTOM LOGOS ON CARBON INSERTS. YOU MUST CHOOSE ONE OF THE STYLES AVAILABLE. Logos available are #1, SINGLE LIGHTNING BOLT, DOUBLE LIGHTNING BOLTS, DMR initials, or Carbon insert with no logo. These fit all model Harleys that use a screw in standard style gas cap. Available in numerous colors and finishes. Raw/machine finish may have small marks or imperfections from the machining process. Powdercoat orders are normally sent to powdercoat as the order comes in and typically a 1-2 week turnaround. These will not fit the fuel gauge side or dummy cap side. Dummy fuel caps are available separately on the site.
TECH TIP: To determine if your Harley-Davidson gas cap is vented or non-vented, inspect the underside of the cap for a tiny check-valve, look for a small hole on the outer lip, or verify your bike’s specific year and tank configuration.
Key Ways to Tell
Check the Underside: Remove the cap and look at the bottom. A vented cap will feature a rubber umbrella valve, a small metal check-ball, or a visible passage that allows air to pass through to balance the tank pressure. A non-vented cap will have a solid, flat rubber seal with no holes or moving valves.
Look at the Threads: On older models, vented caps typically feature shallower locking threads or a shorter depth than non-vented caps.
Look in the Filler Neck: Some Harley tanks have a small built-in vent tube (about 1/8 inch) inside the filler neck. If your tank has this, the tank itself is doing the venting, and you can use either style cap.
Examine the Outer Edge: Some aftermarket vented caps will have a tiny hole drilled into the side of the cap just under the knurled area.
General Harley "Rule of Thumb"
Bikes with Left & Right Caps (Split Tanks): Usually, the left cap is the non-vented side, and the right cap (or the cap with the fuel gauge) handles the venting.
Center-Fill Baggers (2008 and newer): Most modern touring bikes with a center fill use a vented cap.
Softails and Dyna Models: Many of these use a non-vented cap because the tank vents through a separate hose routed down under the frame, but is not always the case.
If you put a non-vented cap on a tank that requires a vented cap, a vacuum will form as fuel is consumed, causing the bike to sputter or stall. Conversely, using a vented cap on a bike designed for a sealed system can cause fuel to leak if the bike tips or fuel tank gets hot from sitting in the sun and the fuel expands and pushes out the vent hole.
